The original K9 Advantix product is an effective flea and tick preventive that kills fleas and ticks and prevents them from re-establishing themselves for up to one month with each dose. It also repels or kills mosquitoes and biting flies. It?was a best seller for good reason, it was a very effective flea and tick control product.
Seeking to improve upon the orignal product, Bayer released a new version called K9 Advantix II. The new version has all the same ingredients as the original but has an additional ingredient called IGR, or Insect Growth Regulator. The insect growth regulator, which is known as pyriproxyfen, was added to the formula to make it a more complete flea and tick killing solution. The IGR ingredient makes it possible to kill fleas and ticks in all of their life stages. This is the main difference between regular K9 Advantix and the newer version. K9 Advantix II kills fleas and ticks in whatever stage of life they are in when the product is applied to your dog. So not only will all living fleas be killed, but all their eggs, pupae, and larvae will be eliminated as well. The entire flea life cycle is targeted, making sure they can never mature.
The topical formula also contains imidacloprid and permethrin which kill or repel on contact, which basically means that if a flea or tick gets close to your dog and tries to get into their fur, they will be repelled or even killed before they can enter your dog’s coat. Other pests that K9 Advantix II also repels or kills include mosquitoes, biting flies, and chewing lice.
The original?K9 Advantix product cannot kill flea eggs, pupae, and larvae. So fleas and ticks have to hatch and become live before the formula can actually kill them. This is the key difference between the old ?and the new formula. Although the old K9 Advantix product is still available for purchase, the new K9 Advantix II has become more popular and is now more widely available.
The old version of K9 Advantix has been phased out by most major pet supply stores. However, it is still available at Amazon.com for those who may want to buy it. However, I really don’t see why anyone would want to buy regular Advantix. K9 Advantix II costs about the same price as the old version, and in some cases it’s even cheaper. If you missed the lowest price recommendation in my comparison chart, you can get the best deal at PETCO. I check prices every month and PETCO consistently has the best price.
